WHEN DO CHUNKY FRAMES LOOK GREAT?

Chunky eyeglass frames can be polarizing topic for many wearers. Some seek them out because they identify with the look, others avoid it entirely. We like to approach the look on a client-by-client basis. Often our clients just need a little push to give them a try.
As with so many things the answer to “are chunky eyeglass frames for me” is: it depends.
IS VINTAGE YOUR THING?
Jeff Goldblum and Zooey Deschanel show off bold eyewear looks that fit their faces well, giving them a tailored feel. Vintage inspired chunky designs add a classic spin to modern clothing styles. These frames often have wide temples, thick eye rims that are soft tumbled, and fit with genuine hinge rivets. These ’50s inspired deep lens shapes are the antithesis to modern sharp edged styles.
DO YOU WANT TO MAKE A STATEMENT?
Jenna Lyons and Martin Scorsese wear chunky oversized glasses that are certainly recognizable as part of their persona. You do not want to accidentally end up here: this should be a conscious choice. If you have a desire to go the oversize route, you’ll want to consult your optician to be sure your prescription will allow for it. It’s a great look, but a commitment.
HAVE YOU FOUND THE PERFECT BOLD FRAME FIT?

If the above do not apply, chunky eyeglasses may still be for you–in which case, fit is everything. Make sure the proportions of the frame fit are spot on. The top of the frame shouldn’t completely cover your eyebrows. The frame width shouldn’t be too narrow that you see the sides of your face, nor should the frame width extend beyond the sides of your temples. Your eyes should fall in the top 1/3 of the frame. If you find a frame which fits like this–get it! You’ve struck gold.
If you are open to trying a bold chunky look, our home try-on service is a perfect way to take them for a spin, on your time.
